The Cherokee Nation has consolidated the boards of its various
businesses into one unit streamlined to pursue a strategy of growth and acquisition.
"I see very aggressive acquisition," said David Stewart, CEO of Cherokee Nation Businesses, the unit that oversees the
Cherokee-owned and -operated companies. "Now that we are positioned — we have the people; we have the capital; we have
the organization — we are ready to implement.
"We have in the pipeline six or seven companies that we are looking at across all these industries. We are in acquisition
mode. That is what we are going to do."
The organization change that has set up the Cherokee Nation for targeted growth was completed just over a month ago, he
said, and involves a strategy of growth taking the expertise the nation had developed in its gaming enterprises and other
businesses and combining them for the benefit of all of the businesses and tribal operations.
Cherokee Nation Businesses operates a diverse group of businesses, include gaming, aerospace and defense, information technology,
security, environmental services and construction. The entertainment portfolio includes the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in
Tulsa. Read more about CNB in the related story on page 5 of the 40 Under 40 tab.
