Cherokee At Large Voters League Minutes: Saturday,
Nov. 7, 2009, Clayton Carriage House, Houston, TX
The Cherokee At Large Voters League met for a delicious Pot Luck Thanksgiving
dinner on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. There were over eighty members present.
There was a short business meeting after the meal, with Vice President Deborah
Scott presiding. The minutes were read. There were no corrections or additions to the minutes.
Deborah introduced famed Cherokee Storyteller Robert Lewis as a gifted storyteller,
artist and professor at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He kept the audience in laughter as many of them
participated in acting out the stories he told. Everyone from the youngest participants to the oldest had a good time
while learning of the time-honored custom of storytelling.
Accompanying Robert was Councilmember at Large, Jack Baker and Cotta Director,
Rick Gassaway. Thanks goe to all three for bringing such a delightful program to us from the Cherokee Nation.
Deborah announced that the next event in March would be a Hog Fry sponsored
by the Cherokee Nation and the location would be announced. The meeting adjourned at 2. p.m.
