Cherokee Nation Using Technology to Simplify Job Searching
June 01, 2011

TAHLEQUAH, Okla.— Cherokee citizens seeking to advance their careers now have a one-stop-shop they can turn to. The Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation Businesses have launched the website www.cherokeejobs.org as part of the “Jobs Well Done” initiative. There, users can view open jobs, learn about the day training program, and request more information about internships, specialized training and employment and placement services through Cherokee Nation, CNB and Cherokee Indian-certified businesses.

“Our citizens want to work, and want to support their families. The Jobs Well Done program is a way to connect those citizens to open jobs and career training,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “For the first time, all of our jobs and services are centralized, regardless of where those jobs are in the tribe. This website makes it easier than ever for citizens to view open jobs and get personalized information on a variety of training and employment programs.”

Previously, tribal government jobs were listed on the Cherokee Nation website, and jobs with the tribe’s business entities were listed on individual company websites. Now, the centralized job bank allows potential applicants to view hundreds of open positions across the tribe, or request to be contacted by a recruiter for guidance on the best way to further his or her career goals.

The aim of Jobs Well Done is to not only connect individuals with jobs but create opportunities for career advancement. The program provides vocational and educational assistance; offers counseling for career path development; and emphasizes internships within the Cherokee Nation or CNB. For those meeting certain requirements, a day training program is available for those seeking immediate employment.

Until now, Cherokee Nation career services had many of these programs only available though their field offices. By adding an online presence, Cherokee Nation hopes to open the door to more career opportunities for its citizens. The partnership with CNB opens that door even wider.

“This program is going to be vitally important in placing people in the right job, or giving them the resources to advance their careers,” says Smith. “This website just is another way Cherokee Nation is using technology as a tool to better the lives of our citizens.”

Those interested in the program can register their profile information at www.cherokeejobs.org and view jobs or receive more information from a Cherokee Nation representative. Once the profile information is collected, it will be used to connect applicants with the program that best suits his or her needs.
